Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided a major update on one of his first-team players ahead of the Crystal Palace match at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Red Devils languish in 12th place in the Premier League table and have only managed eight wins from 23 league matches in the 2024-25 campaign.
Manchester United are now 13 points clear of the relegation zone and the Red Devils are 12 points adrift from the Premier League top four.
However, Ruben Amorim has seen United build some much-needed momentum after their last two matches across all competitions.
The Red Devils defeated Fulham 1-0 in the Premier League at Craven Cottage last weekend before their 2-0 win over FCSB in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
United punched their ticket to the last 16 of the Europa League after the result on Thursday at the National Arena in Bucharest.
Amorim speaks out on Man Utd star
Following Manchester United’s win over Romanian outfit FCSB, Ruben Amorim was asked about the current status of Red Devils left-back Luke Shaw.
Luke Shaw has only managed three appearances for Manchester United in the 2024-25 campaign and the full-back has seen his season disrupted due to injuries.
The 29-year-old United star hasn’t played for the Red Devils since Ruben Amorim’s men thumped Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford last December.
Amorim confirmed that Shaw stayed behind at Carrington instead of travelling to Romania and it would “take a little bit more time” for him to return to full fitness.
However, the 40-year-old United manager admitted that he will use the England defender when he feels it is the “right moment” to provide him with some minutes.
“It can take a little bit more time,” Amorim said at his press conference, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“I think he needs to train more, to spend more time with his teammates playing even like normal, small-sided games, not just working alone.
“He stayed there [at Carrington] to make a different type of work, he’s going to get together with the team when we arrive and start from there.
“When I feel it is the right moment, we will start with some minutes in the games.”
Amorim on Man Utd’s winning momentum
Speaking after the Europa League win over FCSB, Amorim insisted that it has been “really important” for United to build a “natural” feeling of winning matches.
“It’s [becoming] more natural, the feeling of winning,” he said.
“That’s really important. You can feel the dressing room is more relaxed but more relaxed in a good way because we know that everything can change on Sunday, but you feel it’s a different environment.
“You want to keep that feeling to work in a better way.”
