New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s first press conference took place at Carrington on Friday afternoon.

After an exciting few weeks of waiting to watch the new Manchester United era begin, we are now just days away.

Ruben Amorim has already blown the United squad away, as the preparations ramp up for United ahead of facing Ipswich Town.

Now Ruben Amorim has spoken to the press.

It was a press conference which had plenty of eyes watching and plenty of reporters in the room at Carrington.

Amorim has been endorsed by Jose Mourinho already, but now he has revealed a touching message the legendary Portuguese manager sent him.

Ruben Amorim on Jose Mourinho message

At 2 pm on Friday, MUTV showed Amorim walking out for the very first time in front of reporters – all of whom wanted a bit of the new head coach.

One question was directed at the relationship between the new United boss and Mourinho, after which Amorim revealed what the former United manager had told him about the club.

“He sent me a message. He said welcome to the club, he said it’s a big club and in that respect he’s correct.”

Amorim then continued to explain that things have changed a lot since Mourinho was here.

“But a lot of things change, we are in a different building now, we are building a new one.”

After this, Amorim heaped praise onto his one-time teacher, heralding the impact he had on Portuguese coaches and football.

“[Jose] Mourinho had an influence on all Portuguese coaches, not just on me.”

Finally, Amorim admitted he is not Mourinho – but insisted he is the right man for United right now.

“But I’m different. He was a European champion, I’m not. I’m a different guy in a different moment. I’m the right person for this moment.”

Amorim already has his very own Frank Lampard

In the press conference, while discussing Mourinho, Amorim touched on the Chelsea side that he had inherited in 2004.

“Football is different nowadays, I think I am the right person for this moment. I am a young guy and I try to use this to help my players. Their young guys were [Frank] Lampard and these kind of players, nowadays it’s so much different. I think I’m right for now.”

This happens to draw striking comparisons with his situation at United where a young midfielder is dying to be transformed into a superstar.

Ineos – like Roman Abramovic did with Mourinho – have picked their number-one target as head coach and got him.

Now, Amorim will be expected to turn Kobbie Mainoo into a midfielder who is in conversations with players like Lampard in years to come.

Mainoo certainly has the potential, as do other members of the United squad. Amorim will have young gems such as Leny Yoro and Alejandro Garnacho, which should mean Amorim can turn these talents into bonafide world-class players.
