Since the comeback to defeat Southampton, United have only won one Premier League game which came in a far from inspiring 1-0 win over Sunday’s opponents Fulham.

Last time out, United drew 2-2 with Everton in which Amorim’s side came from 2-0 down thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ moment of quality from a free-kick and also Manuel Ugarte scoring his first United goal.

Saturday saw a couple of players return from injury – yet on the bench remained a handful of youngsters. Now, Amorim has shared updates ahead of the midweek clash with Kieran McKenna.

Ruben Amorim shares latest on injury crisis at Manchester United

The injury crisis Amorim is facing saw him name seven academy players on United’s bench against Tottenham. There were not as many against Everton, but Amorim still gave Chido Obi minutes while Sekou Kone and Elyh Harrison were both on the bench.

As exciting as this is for fans and specifically those who have watched the academy play, United needs to win more than anything else and Amorim would have wished for senior returns against Ipswich.

In the build-up to the game, Amorim spoke to the media and in doing so revealed the injury crisis continues this week.

“It’s the same squad”, United’s head coach revealed regarding potential returnees. They are improving but nobody is recovering for this game.”

This is a frustrating admission from Amorim considering some of the players have been due back for a while now.

But it does point toward United having the same academy players on the bench again this Wednesday and this could see Kone make his debut.

Which Manchester United players are still injured?

The list of injured United players has been trimmed over the past week, yet against Ipswich Town it will still be a lengthy list for Amorim to work around, as Premier Injuries reveals.

We all know Amad, Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo are long-term absences – with the former two seeing their seasons end.

Luke Shaw and Mason Mount have both been out for a long time and even if they were to return United could not rely on them.

Both Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are yet to return for United along with Jonny Evans and Toby Collyer – all of whom have opened space for academy players.
