Ruben Amorim has admitted that Manchester United had a “lack of intensity” in their 2-2 Premier League draw against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
David Moyes’ men put Manchester United on the back foot after Everton striker Beto opened the scoring inside the first 20 minutes at Goodison Park.
Ruben Amorim’s United side suffered another setback after Abdoulaye Doucoure doubled Everton’s advantage and put David Moyes’ men 2-0 up by half-time.
United fought back in the second half and eventually climbed back into the Premier League contest after Bruno Fernandes converted a free-kick in the 72nd minute.
Following on from Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick, Manuel Ugarte found the all-important equaliser eight minutes later with a stunning strike past Jordan Pickford.
United avoided defeat at Goodison Park and walked away with an important Premier League point from Saturday’s 2-2 draw.
What Amorim spotted from Man Utd
Manchester United have only won eight Premier League matches in the 2024-25 season and the Red Devils are currently 15th in the league table.
Ruben Amorim’s men are 13 points clear of 18th-place Ipswich Town and United welcome Kieran McKenna’s side to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Speaking ahead of the Ipswich Town, Amorim touched on the performance from United against Everton and was not thrilled with his side in the first half.
The 40-year-old United manager said that United did not improve a lot in the second half, but he did take away three positives from what he saw in the 45 minutes.
“It’s hard to when we see the game and I know, you guys know and even the players know we had a lack of intensity,” he said at his pre-match press conference, as per the Manchester Evening News.
“We improved not a lot in the second half but the small things of second balls we didn’t lose things without so much pressure, we were more aggressive with the ball, we changed the energy.”
Amorim’s comments to Man Utd players
Amorim has seen success with his results at United in the FA Cup and the Europa League, but the Red Devils have struggled to bounce back in the Premier League.
United have managed only one win in their last five league matches under the former Sporting CP boss ahead of the Ipswich clash at Old Trafford.
Following the Everton result, Amorim made his feelings clear on what he told his United players at half-time after they went 2-0 down at Goodison Park.
“I just said we are going to play the same way because during the week I saw a different thing,” he said at the time.
“We are going to do the same thing, no matter what the result [is]. It’s more [about] belief and then [about having] the quality in the small things. Like, control the ball because men were free.
“Everybody knew because we watch the games of Everton, we worked during the week and we proved that in the second half.
“I didn’t change nothing; it was playing the same way with better energy and fight for the second balls.”
