Ruben Amorim is often outspoken and does not hold back on criticising his Manchester United team.

Possibly the biggest statement he has made since taking charge was labelling his Manchester United team the ‘worst in the history’ of the club.

Ruben Amorim has since explained this quote, but he wasn’t wrong.

Mathematically, this Manchester United team is one of the worst, with such struggles unprecedented in recent memory.

There is confidence that eventually Amorim will turn things around, as he experienced similar struggles at his previous clubs. United are fully backing Amorim as the signing of Patrick Dorgu shows.

If United are to make a success of this season, then one player in particular will likely play a tremendous role, and now Amorim has showered him in praise.

Ruben Amorim raves about Bruno Fernandes

On Friday, Amorim’s pre-Fulham press conference was released by club media. In this presser, he had plenty to say and tonnes of praise for one player in particular.

Speaking about Bruno Fernandes, Amorim admitted he feels lucky to have him.

“He is a top player and people talk a lot about his frustration and [they] always talk a lot about his arms in the air, sometimes it is not a good thing to see but you have to see the other side.

“When we are under pressure, he is always the guy that wants the ball and he is always available, that is so important. Especially in the Premier League and then, he can run, and he runs a lot, he can fight a lot. He has two sides and I have to help him manage both situations.

“We are lucky to have a player like Bruno Fernandes. Sometimes he makes mistakes, like me last week, but he is really important and he has passion. This is so important to be a football player.”

Bruno remains Manchester United’s best player

Bruno often catches criticism and takes the brunt of the blame when United are struggling, but this season he is quietly having a wonderful campaign.

Bruno is the captain of United and this season despite all the struggles, he has led as such. The Portuguese international proved this against Rangers, and it is no surprise that Amorim has waxed lyrical about him.

It is Bruno’s third permanent manager at United and he has made himself invaluable once more.

Bruno is 31 this year and doesn’t look like slowing down, rather he looks like he could prolong his career by dropping deeper into the midfield.

So in conclusion, Amorim is right – we are lucky to have him.
