Manchester United have been showing signs of improvement under Ruben Amorim but Roy Keane still has a major concern.
Ruben Amorim said Manchester United were “unlucky” in the latest 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, but that narrative is becoming all too familiar for supporters.
Do Ruben Amorim’s comments feel familiar to you?
Which other games have United been better this season and failed to win? Is it down to Amorim, or the players?
The Red Devils continue to drop points in the Premier League even after dominating opponents. Amorim deserves praise for his tactics at Villa Park, but once again, it didn’t result in three points.
After the full-time whistle, Roy Keane praised Matheus Cunha for his performance and his goal, but the United legend also picked out some concerning issues.

Roy Keane slams Man United’s defending
It was two stunning Morgan Rogers goals that sunk United on Sunday afternoon, and Leny Yoro was criticised for not closing down the Aston Villa star for both strikes.
After the full-time whistle, Keane did not hold back on United’s defending, claiming they are one of the worst teams in the division when out of possession.
Who was the Man Utd man of the match in the defeat at Villa?
A positive performance despite the loss… who stood out for you?
“It’s not so bad playing against United. When United are out of possession, they’re probably one of the worst teams in the league,” Keane said on Sky Sports.
“In possession, of course they are good and they are a threat. They could have scored two or three goals today.
“But unfortunately, part of being a footballer, especially a top footballer, is about what you do out of possession.
“Man United cut corners, they take too many risks and they are getting punished. I’m glad they’re getting punished.”
Man United’s defensive record this season
Keane is right to criticise United’s defence, especially when you zoom out and look at the record in 2025/26.
United have conceded 28 goals in the Premier League this season, more than any other side in the top 13 positions.
On the flip side, only Manchester City have scored more goals than United’s 31 this season, but United’s tendency to leak goals is costing priceless points.

There is context to consider, including key injuries to Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, while Lisandro Martinez is still yet to start a match since returning from injury.
Ayden Heaven was brilliant against Villa, but he is still only 19 years old and is being asked to play alongside 20-year-old Leny Yoro in the heart of defence.
