The 50-year-old former United captain felt that out-of-favour Red Devils striker Joshua Zirkzee would have come on for Fernandes instead of Martinez.
“I’m surprised [by the change] as I thought Zirkzee would come on as he is closer to Fernandes’ position,” he said on Sky Sports.

“He was the difference maker with two great goals. There wasn’t much between the teams, very even.
“Two special goals from a very special player.”
United will now return to Old Trafford for their next Premier League match, with the Red Devils hosting Newcastle on Boxing Day for an 8pm kick-off time in the UK.
