Manchester United legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville were both in agreement over who was the funniest teammate they played alongside in their careers.

Roy Keane had a magnificent spell at Manchester United after his move from Nottingham Forest in 1993, with the Irishman being a key figure at Old Trafford.

The 52-year-old, who has since become an important punditry figure, is considered as one of the best midfielders and captains of all time after a legendary career.

Despite attracting interest from two elite European teams, Keane remained at Old Trafford and was a commanding midfielder and linchpin leader for United.

Keane excelled as United skipper and had a no-nonsense approach both on the pitch and off it, with the Irish hardman captaining his side to an iconic treble win in 1999.

The Sky Sports pundit was an important presence for legendary ex-United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and enjoyed incredible silverware success at Old Trafford.

However, Keane’s career at United came to an abrupt end after his relationship with Ferguson fractured, with the Scotsman axing him from the Premier League club.

The ex-United captain went on to play at Celtic in 2005 before calling it time on his prolific career in 2006, with Keane later opening up on a big career regret he had.

Keane and Neville agree on funniest teammate

Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville asked fellow Manchester United legend Roy Keane about his illustrious playing career and his personal life on the pitch.

Keane surprised Neville with his admission over one former teammate after he called him overrated, while the Irishman also named the best player he played alongside.

The former United midfielder revealed his best teammate of all time and there was a clear winner in the eyes of Keane, who spent 12 years at Old Trafford.

Keane, who opened up on the one shirt swap he asked for in his entire career, told Neville that he believed Nicky Butt was the funniest teammate he played alongside.

Neville fully agreed with Keane’s pick for his funniest teammate, with Paul Scholes previously sharing a hilarious story involving former United midfielder Butt.

“Butty was a good crack, wasn’t he?” Keane asked Neville on The Overlap in 2021.

Responding to Keane, Neville immediately said: “Yeah.”

Butt in awe at Man Utd legend Keane

A famed member of the ‘Class of ‘92,’ Nicky Butt enjoyed a superb career at Old Trafford and played alongside the likes of Keane and Scholes in midfield.

Keane has spoken highly of Butt in the past and even came close to naming him as one of the best players he played alongside before choosing United legend Scholes.

Butt, who came through United’s youth setup, played for the Red Devils until 2004 and made a whopping 387 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

The former England and United midfielder previously claimed that Keane was “one of the best players” that the Red Devils had and he would be remembered for that.

“He’s basically as big a player as the club has had and will probably have for a long time,” he told Sky Sports.

“But a club like United always moves on.

“He was one of the best players the club has ever had, as a leader. That is how he will be remembered.”
