Jamie Carragher feels there would be one major problem if Manchester United picked one of the names that Roy Keane and Gary Neville both liked as the club’s next permanent manager.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have been left with the task of finding the seventh permanent Manchester United manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Even Sir Jim was off his seat!
The Red Devils suffered a key blow earlier this month after Ineos made the decision to sack former Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as Man Utd head coach.
Ruben Amorim’s relationship with the behind-the-scenes management at Old Trafford had fractured in the weeks leading up to his dismissal from the club.
Darren Fletcher was appointed caretaker manager in the aftermath of Amorim’s Man Utd exit and oversaw two matches in charge of the Premier League side.

Jamie Carragher says Roy Keane and Gary Neville both made an ‘interesting’ call with their Man Utd permanent head coach pick
Michael Carrick took over from former Manchester United teammate Darren Fletcher last week after he made his sensational return to Old Trafford as interim manager.
The 44-year-old United legend has been left with the huge challenge of trying to see out the remainder of the 2025-26 season after Ruben Amorim was axed by the club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are expected to appoint Amorim’s long-term successor at Man Utd in the summer ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.

Both Roy Keane and Gary Neville have previously suggested that they would like to see Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone in the Old Trafford hot seat.
However, Jamie Carragher admitted that it was an “interesting” – and surprising – pick from Keane and Neville to throw their backing behind Diego Simeone.
“Diego Simeone is an interesting one,” he said on Sky Sports.
“I was speaking to Gary Neville about United’s DNA. It is interesting that Roy [Keane] and Gary have both mentioned Simeone at different points.”

Diego Simeone has been linked with Man Utd in the past and the 55-year-old Argentine has been widely praised for his work at Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
The Atletico manager inked his most recent contract with the La Liga club back in 2023 and Simeone’s current deal runs until 2027 at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Carragher has insisted that Keane and Neville’s endorsement of Simeone does not fit in with the so-called ‘Man Utd DNA’ that the Red Devils want in their manager.
“That goes away from what a club’s DNA is because he is a defensive coach,” he said.
“You can’t ask a manager to change.”
Ruben Amorim’s reign as Man Utd manager lasted only 14 months after he left Sporting CP in 2024 and replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout.
