Romano explains why Italian giants called off deal for Manchester United man

Juventus decided against signing Jadon Sancho on loan from Premier League giants Manchester United with the England international now set to return to Borussia Dortmund instead.

Just three weeks ago, Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl appeared to confirm that Jadon Sancho would not be on his way back to Signal Iduna Park after all.

But don’t believe everything you read. Perhaps Kehl was keen to keep his plans under wraps. Or maybe something has changed, behind the scenes, since the BVB chief appeared to rule out Sancho’s Rhine return in mid-December.

Either way, a player who set Manchester United back £73 million during the summer of 2021 looks destined to re-join the club where he played comfortably the best football of his career, The Times reporting that Dortmund will stump up £2.6 million towards Sancho’s wages between January and June.

Jadon Sancho is leaving Manchester United

Juventus, Fabrizio Romano tells Caught Offside, were interested too. Or, at least, they were.

The Serie A challengers soon backed out of contention after deciding against paying up for a loan deal without the guarantee of a permanent transfer.

“An important point is that Sancho has already given the green light to Dortmund. He’s said yes to the Bundesliga giants. He thinks returning there could be the best move for him for the next six months,” Romano explains.

“Sancho has already said ‘yes’ to the move after positive conversations with different people at Dortmund. He wants to return, and so the clubs are now discussing the loan deal.

“Juventus were interested in Sancho as well. But, in the end, they were not open to paying that kind of money for a player who’s leaving the club in five months. Let’s see if they look for alternatives in that position.”

Gone and very much forgotten

One of the most underwhelming signings in Manchester United’s modern history, Sancho will depart with only 10 goals in 82 Red Devils appearances and having fallen out of favour after a very public dispute with Erik ten Hag.

Casemiro, Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial could also leave this month. Donny Van de Beek has already departed to Eintracht Frankfurt.
