Robbie Savage has dropped his two cents on an early call that new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has already made at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim officially arrived at the Premier League club earlier this week after Manchester United paid out his £9.25m release clause to Sporting CP.

The 39-year-old Portuguese manager agreed earlier this month to take over at the Red Devils at the start of the November international break.

Erik ten Hag was sacked late last month as Red Devils manager after United’s disappointing start to the current Premier League campaign.

United are currently 13th in the Premier League table and are four points adrift from the top four after 11 league matches played in the 2024-25 season.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was installed as interim manager after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal and the United legend led the Red Devils for four matches before Amorim’s arrival.

The 48-year-old Dutchman, who was an assistant manager to Ten Hag, won three matches and picked up one draw during his time as interim manager.

Savage on Man Utd and Amorim decision

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at Manchester United was shrouded in mystery after Erik ten Hag was sacked and Ruben Amorim was set to arrive at the club.

Amorim planned to bring his own coaching staff to Old Trafford and it was previously unclear if the former Sporting CP boss would keep Van Nistelrooy.

However, it was announced earlier this week that former striker Van Nistelrooy would leave United at the start of the November international break.

Speaking in his column for Football365, Robbie Savage has opened up about his early management career at Macclesfield and touched on United.

The Macclesfield boss claimed that Amorim has a “massive” task ahead of him and he believes that the Portuguese made the right call over Van Nistelrooy.

“They are so important for me. Football is ruthless and I learned as a player that trust is everything. I trust these guys,” Savage said.

“We’ve seen it this week with Ruben Amorim going [into] Manchester United, and Ruud van Nistelrooy leaving.

“It’s a massive job for Amorim and he knows he needs people around him he can trust.

“The new manager has got an inner circle and you can’t simply integrate someone into that because he’s a Manchester United legend.”

Bruno Fernandes on Amorim’s management style

Amorim’s first match in charge of United will be on 24th November against Premier League side Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Bruno Fernandes has thrown his full support behind the United manager and outlined how Amorim supports his players.

“I’ve seen many, many moments where players were struggling and he kept his faith in them,” he told Manchester United’s official website.

“He always goes to the press conference and always defends their players and always kept them on under himself to give them the best opportunity to shine.

“He had a really youthful team so they needed that and hopefully when he comes here he can do the same again with the youth.

“Us players with the most experience, we have to help him to get that and get the best out of every player at this club.”
