Raphael Varane is shaping up as Manchester United’s top transfer market priority.
The Telegraph reported a move for Varane is next on the agenda while ESPN report United are making good progress.

Former United defender and title winner Rio Ferdinand is also trying to sway Varane in United’s direction.
Responding during an Instagram Q&A over the weekend, Ferdinand said he would ‘love to see’ Varane at Old Trafford, before adding that he has already sent the French defender a message to try and influence his decision.

What’s the latest on Varane?
Journalist Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United have been in direct contact with Real Madrid over a transfer. He says an official bid has not yet been made, but will be ‘at the right moment’.
This all sounds pretty encouraging from United’s perspective. Varane would be a key addition to the team if the club can get a deal over the line.
Varane is currently on holiday after France’s Euro 2020 elimination. His exit from the tournament 12 days before the final has helped speed up discussions over his future.
Madrid are stil hoping Varane might stay but Spanish newspaper Sport suggests the France international wants a new challenge.
Varane has only one year remaining on his contract at Real Madrid and the Spanish club do not want to lose him on a free next summer, and this places United in a strong position.
