Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would be “very happy” if Manchester United signed one “proven” talent for Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim this summer.
Ruben Amorim and his Manchester United first team will head out on their pre-season campaign in July and August ahead of the new Premier League season.
United’s Premier League fixture list was released on Wednesday and the Red Devils will kick off their 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford against Arsenal in August.
Amorim currently has the opportunity to overhaul his United first-team squad this summer after a disastrous 2024-25 campaign for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
The 40-year-old United manager has seen his Red Devils squad bolstered earlier this month after United confirmed their signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Matheus Cunha had been linked with United in recent months and the Red Devils triggered the £62.5m release clause in the Brazilian’s Wolves contract this summer.

Rio Ferdinand’s position on Man Utd’s transfer activity and the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves
Ruben Amorim is expected to see further arrivals in the summer transfer window after Manchester United landed Matheus Cunha from Premier League side Wolves.
The United boss is also tipped to wield the axe on his Red Devils squad, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony on the chopping block.
Rio Ferdinand welcomed the signing of former Wolves ace Matheus Cunha and is hopeful that the 26-year-old Brazil international is a success at Old Trafford.
However, the 46-year-old former TNT Sports pundit pointed out the “problem” where United’s transfer activity could end up going wrong with certain players.
Ferdinand insisted that another major positive for United would be if Bryan Mbeumo leaves Brentford and completes the move to Old Trafford this summer.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, “I’m happy with Cunha, he’s one of the ones I mentioned on my list. I hope it goes well for him.
“The problem is that I’ve been happy many times in transfer windows and it’s gone wrong.
“I’m hoping he’s [Cunha] not going to be added to that list. If they get Mbeumo, I’d be very happy.”
Rio Ferdinand singles out the challenge for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo if he signs for Man Utd
Bryan Mbeumo has been linked with United and the 25-year-old French-born winger is believed to be keen on signing for the Red Devils and playing under Amorim.
Tottenham have also been tipped to enter the race to sign Mbeumo and for Spurs to reunite the Brentford attacker with former Bees manager Thomas Frank.
Ferdinand believes that Mbeumo’s biggest challenge at Old Trafford would be the “adjustment” of playing for a big club like United and the expectation around him.
“Because he wants to come. Mbeumo wants to come, I know it,” he said.
“His stats over the last three seasons in the Premier League are up there, by the way. Goals and assists, goal chances, ridiculous.
“Again, another proven Premier League player. This is what I like, [playing] in the Premier League. There ain’t no adjustment business.
“The only thing is [that] there will be [an] adjustment because of the size of the club.
“They don’t have to do that when they go to Arsenal! There ain’t that pressure, the badge ain’t as heavy! It’s heavy, but it’s not as heavy!”
United submitted a bid of £45m and a further £10m in add-ons for Mbeumo earlier this month and Brentford rejected the approach from the Red Devils.
