Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha, with the Brazil international signing a contract until June 2030, with the option of an additional year.

After a turbulent campaign, losing the Europa League final and finishing 15th in the Premier League, United are looking to turn things around next season by targeting players who have proven themselves playing at the highest level in England.

Cunha is an example of that, and now United are considering a second bid to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. They are examples of players who recorded impressive goal tallies in the Premier League, unlike United’s forward players, as Bruno Fernandes topped the scoring charts.

It has been known for some time that Cunha would join United, but fans have had to wait until now to hear the former Wolves forward break his silence on the move.

Matheus Cunha’s dream becomes reality at Man Utd

It was only a matter of time before United fans would hear from their new signing, who had been busy representing Brazil during the June round of internationals.

Matheus Cunha now has a chance to enjoy some time off before returning for pre-season at Carrington.

The Red Devils will be travelling to the United States for their pre-season tour as part of their preparations for the 2025/26 campaign.

Cunha, 26, said it is hard to put into words how he feels after signing for United.

Speaking to ManUtd.com, Cunha said: “It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player.

“Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt.

“I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.

“I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”

Although Cunha has played for big clubs in the past, like Atletico Madrid, this is by far the biggest move of his career.

What’s next for Cunha?

Cunha now has a chance to recharge his batteries before his United career starts.

The opening game of United’s pre-season is against Leeds in Stockholm on Saturday, 19 July.

After that, United will take part in a Premier League Series pre-season tournament in the United States.

The final pre-season game will take place against Fiorentina at Old Trafford, a week before the new Premier League season kicks off.
