Rio Ferdinand names his best Manchester United starting XI when every player is fully fit, with just one new signing

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has faced a battle with injuries over the past two seasons, and selecting his first choice XI is not always easy.

The latest injury concerns have seen Noussair Mazraoui, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho all pull out of international squads with injury worries.

Harry Maguire was also pictured in a protective boot after the Aston Villa game.

But even if every single player was fit, does Erik ten Hag know his best Manchester United XI?

Picking United’s best team when everybody is fit is a debate to split Manchester United fans – everybody will have a different opinion.

Rio Ferdinand selects best United centre-back partnership

Former centre-back Rio Ferdinand has given his shot at naming Manchester United’s strongest XI.

And he believes new signing Leny Yoro will be a part of it when the French defender recovers from an injury sustained in pre-season.

Yoro was United’s big summer signing from Lille, only to sustain a fractured metatarsal during the tour of the USA. He is not expected back for a few weeks.

And asked to name a preferred partner for Yoro, speaking on YouTube, Ferdinand said he would like to see Jonny Evans alongside him.

Ferdinand believes Evans and Yoro would complement each other well, a perfect blend of youth and experience.

Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof would all be left on the sidelines.

Ferdinand’s complete United XI

Discussing his strongest Manchester United XI, Rio Ferdinand revealed his choices, going through the team.

He commented: “Right-back Dalot. Leny Yoro. Leny Yoro and you could pick any of the others, but I am going to go Jonny [Evans] because of his experience, and next to young Leny Yoro to pull him through and to communicate and to help him through at times and understand the task ahead with a bit more clarity.

“Onana goalkeeper. He has been brilliant, by the way. He has kept us in loads of games.

“Left-back Shaw if he’s fit. And then the two in midfield, I would go Kobbie Mainoo, and I would go Casemiro.

“I would go Casemiro, and Bruno in the 10. And I would go Rashford on the left, Garnacho on the right, Hojlund up top.”

For Manchester United to get a fully fit squad in the first place would be huge. And given the relentless fixture schedule, it may never happen.

Quite notably, Ferdinand has selected only one of Manchester United’s summer signings in his team, the one who has not played a single game.

That’s a little bit damning of the recruitment this summer, and shows a better return on the pitch is required.
