Rangers captain James Tavernier is “delighted” to have Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo playing in front of him.

The Ivorian made an immediate impact for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, scoring after five minutes on his debut in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Ross County.

Rangers’ new number nine has already received high praise from the man who assisted his first goal for the Scottish champions, Joe Aribo.

Ahead of the top of the table clash against Celtic, it was Tavernier’s turn to sing Amad’s praises.

Speaking in the press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s clash, Tavernier said: “Yeah I was really impressed with Amad at the weekend, coming straight in and starting.

“I was really impressed by his performance, he’s a left-footed attacking winger who can get at defenders and put the real fear into them.

“I’m delighted to have him in front of me and hopefully we can create a really good relationship where we can move forward and really strengthen that right-hand side.”

The Ivory Coast international has already made an impressive start to life up north and he will no doubt be targeting two goals from two games when Rangers head to Celtic Park.

The fierce derby is likely to be played at a frantic pace and the 19-year-old could be on the receiving end of some bruising challenges.

But with the likes of Tavernier supporting him, the United wonderkid will be hoping to prove the difference in the crunch title clash.

With the attack-minded Tavernier wanting to get forward and overlap Amad, the youngster may have opportunities to cut inside onto his talented left-foot.

The Rangers captain has already seen Amad Diallo strike “fear” into the opposition defence and if he can do the same against the Gers’ fiercest rivals, the teenager’s popularity will hit new heights.
