Ralf Rangnick blasts Manchester United players ‘behaviour’ in lead up to Burnley’s equaliser

Manchester United can blame VAR all they like for failing to beat Burnley, but ultimately the team have to take responsibility.

United wasted numerous chances and in the same theme of the Middlesbrough game, switched off at a key moment and paid the price.

The defending for Jay Rodriguez’s equaliser was terrible and after the game United interim boss Ralf Rangnick let the players know it.

A clearly frustrated Rangnick told the club website: “The second half we didn’t start well, we were not aggressive enough, we were not composed enough on the ball.

“Even the two minutes before we conceded the goal, three times we had won the ball and played tiki-taka football in our own half and gave away the ball too easily.

“Then we had our own counterattack, 20 seconds before we scored. The behaviour of our team in those 10 seconds before they scored was just not good enough.

“We had two or three players in our own half but still allowed them to score the goal.”

United fail to respond

Rangnick did not single out any particular player, but it was obvious who Manchester United fans felt responsible, Harry Maguire.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand criticised Maguire too, telling BT Sport: “He’ll be disappointed. There hasn’t been the consistency you’d expect from a player of his stature.

He added too that Maguire alone can’t take sole criticism for the draw: “You can level it at Harry Maguire but the whole team have to take responsibility.”

After the draw and wasted chances against Middlesbrough, United needed to give a response. Instead fans were served up more of the same, and irritation and frustration is growing with each game.
