Predicted Manchester United line up to face Manchester City

Manchester United are looking to bounce back from Champions League exit in midweek.

The challenge ahead is a Manchester derby, with United one point ahead of City in the league.

This will be a real test, and while many expect United’s inconsistency to lead to a victory, it is not so simple.

United’s home record in the Premier League has been very poor this season, although the club did win the last fixture at home to West Bromwich Albion, courtesy of a Bruno Fernandes penalty.

Fernandes will play a big role here and much of the discussion pre-match will be between a showdown between him and Kevin de Bruyne.

United won the last meeting between the two sides 2-0 back in March in the last match with fans in attendance at Old Trafford.

Selection decisions

Fred returns from suspension in midweek and a rest last weekend and he is a lock to start this fixture.

It is most likely Solskjaer will reunite him with Scott McTominay, who scored in the win over City last time around.

Paul Pogba will not have a place in the starting line-up, with United reverting to a 4-2-3-1 with a three-man midfield of Fred, McTominay, and Fernandes.

Anthony Martial’s return could be a big boost. The Frenchman scored in both wins against City last season.

Even though his form has not been great, it is good to have him back especially with Edinson Cavani only likely to play a role from the bench at best.

The big decision looming elsewhere appears to be in goal, whether it be David de Gea or Dean Henderson.

De Gea’s lack of conviction in midweek trying to keep out Leipzig’s third goal will have given Solskjaer an excuse to make a change if he wants to.

Even though the odds are in De Gea’s favour, we hope Solskjaer gives Henderson another start, as he did against West Ham.

This side would then see three changes from midweek, with Martial, Fred and Henderson in, and Shaw, De Gea and Matic out.
