Paul Pogba has now reacted to former Manchester United teammate Michael Carrick becoming the permanent head coach of the club ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Michael Carrick became the seventh permanent Manchester United manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era after his appointment was formally confirmed in May.
Ineos revealed that Carrick would replace Ruben Amorim on a permanent basis ahead of United’s final match of the 2025-26 campaign against Brighton.
Carrick had overseen 11 Premier League wins from 16 matches as interim head coach last season after Ruben Amorim was sacked as Man Utd manager in January.

Paul Pogba says Man Utd’s Champions League run will be a huge challenge for Michael Carrick
Michael Carrick inherited a Manchester United side that were seventh in the Premier League table and led the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the previous campaign.
United punched their ticket back to the Champions League for the 2026-27 campaign after missing out on European football altogether in the 2025-26 season.
Carrick will face an increase in fixtures in his first full season as Man Utd manager after the Red Devils were reduced to a 40-match campaign in the 2025-26 run.
Speaking to ESPN, Paul Pogba thinks that Man Utd will face the pressure a lot more under Carrick during their 2026-27 Champions League campaign.
“I guess next year they’re back in the Champions League — it’s going to be a good challenge for them and they’re going to have to prove themselves,” he said.
“But it was for sure a good season for them to get back to where Manchester United belong.”

Paul Pogba on Michael Carrick succeeding Ruben Amorim as Man Utd’s permanent head coach
Pogba is all too familiar with United legend Carrick, having played alongside him at Old Trafford as a player and later being coached under him at the Red Devils.
When discussing Carrick’s appointment as Man Utd manager, he said: “It was good. I think it was very good for him and for the players.
“They had like another air; they felt another energy and that was good for them — it’s all they needed.”
Carrick will return to the dugout in July for the start of Man Utd’s pre-season summer tour, with the Red Devils first facing Wrexham at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
