England cult hero Paul Gascoigne has named one remarkable Manchester United legend among five standout talents that football will “never” see again.
Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was a big admirer of Paul Gascoigne and wanted to bring ‘Gazza’ to Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson came close to landing Gascoigne when he played for Newcastle, with the England legend promising that he would sign for United.
However, Gascoigne snubbed the chance to link up with Ferguson at United and instead completed a transfer to Premier League side Tottenham in 1988.
Ferguson admitted that he regretted not having the chance to manage the 57-year-old England legend, despite Gascoigne offering himself to United in the 1990s.
Gascoigne was widely hailed as a remarkable talent during his prolific playing career, with ‘Gazza’ lifting an FA Cup with Spurs and capturing silverware with Rangers.
However, the former Tottenham and Newcastle ace battled his inner demons away from the pitch and endured struggles with issues like alcoholism.

Gascoigne rates Man Utd legend
Paul Gascoigne’s prolific playing career extended to his impact on the international stage with England, including at major tournaments like Euro 96.
Speaking to Football365, the Three Lions cult hero insisted that there would “never” be a player like him in football.
Gascoigne said that the same applied to other legendary players, including Argentina icon Diego Maradona, Brazil legend Pele and Dutch hero Johan Cruyff.
The ex-Spurs star added that legendary former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson would be another player who would never be seen again in football.
“There’ll never be another one [Gazza]. It’s like, one Maradona, one Pele, one Cryuff, one Bryan Robson,” Gascoigne said.
Robson’s impact at Man Utd
Bryan Robson remains United’s longest-serving captain and the former Red Devils midfielder had a remarkable impact during his spell at Old Trafford.
The 67-year-old United legend lifted two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, a League Cup and a European Cup Winners’ Cup with the Red Devils.
Robson retained the captain’s armband under Ferguson after the Scotsman left Aberdeen and arrived as Ron Atkinson’s replacement at United in 1986.
Ferguson waxed lyrical about the impact that Robson, AKA ‘Captain Marvel,’ had at United and how he was “easily” the best captain he had at Old Trafford.
“Well, he was easily the best captain I had,” he said in 2021.
“I think over the period he was at United he was the best player.”
