England legend Paul Gascoigne is a big admirer of Man Utd talent under Erik ten Hag, he only has one ‘complaint’ about him

England cult hero Paul Gascoigne has admitted that he is a “bit disappointed” that one Manchester United star did not feature at Euro 2024 in Germany.

Paul Gascoigne had a prolific playing career at both club level and on the international stage, with the England legend still held in high regard.

The 57-year-old made a sensational impact for the Three Lions, including showing his brilliance for England during the semi-final run of Euro 96.

Gascoigne’s incredible talent even caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson, who tried everything in his power to bring the former Tottenham star to Manchester United.

Euro 2024 was held in Germany this summer and Spain defeated England 2-1 in the final to clinch the Henri Delaunay trophy at the Olympiastadion Berlin last month.

Several United players were away from Old Trafford representing their respective countries at this summer’s Euros and at the 2024 Copa America in the United States.

Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were both called up for Portugal, while the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw represented England at the tournament.

Gascoigne talks Man Utd star

Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire missed Euro 2024 due to a calf injury, despite being a key player for ex-England boss Gareth Southgate.

Marcus Rashford, on the other hand, was snubbed from England’s Euro 2024 squad after his form for the Red Devils fell off a cliff last season.

Speaking to Football365, Paul Gascoigne admitted that he was a “bit disappointed” to not see Marcus Rashford representing England at Euro 2024.

Gazza admitted that he does “like” Rashford, but the eccentric former Newcastle and Tottenham ace had only one complaint about the United star.

Gascoigne insisted that Rashford needs to “smile a bit” and believe he’s “not enjoying” himself, despite playing for United and the wages he is on at the club.

“Marcus Rashford, I’m a bit disappointed he didn’t get picked for the Euros because I like Rashford,” he said.

“The thing with Rashford is, he’s just got to smile a bit, f*****g hell!

“Buy him something to make him smile. It just feels like he’s not enjoying it. He’s playing for Manchester United and with the wages he’s on, he’s got a life of luxury there and he’s got to enjoy it.

“I didn’t like it when some players scored and didn’t celebrate because you’ve got to realise – a bloke will take his three sons to the match, say Wembley, it costs them a lot of money to get there, money on food, watching the game and then these players just go off and don’t appreciate it.”

Rashford to turn things around?

All eyes are now on Marcus Rashford and whether or not the United star can bounce back after a lacklustre 2023-24 campaign with the Red Devils.

Rashford secured regular playing time in the United pre-season this summer after missing out on England’s run to the final at Euro 2024.

Erik ten Hag has kept faith with the 26-year-old United forward amid his form last season and Rashford could turn things around at Old Trafford in the new season.

Rashford only scored seven times in 33 Premier League matches last season, but he found the back of the net 17 times in Erik ten Hag’s debut season at the club.
