Bryan Mbeumo has scored two goals in his first eight Manchester United matches but Owen Hargreaves still isn’t convinced by the move.
Manchester United’s priority over the summer transfer window was to add more goals to Ruben Amorim’s squad, and that was achieved with three attacking signings.
Matheus Cunha was the first to arrive in a £62.5m deal from Wolves, before Ineos got tangled in a lengthy transfer saga to sign Bryan Mbeumo for £65m from Brentford. Finally, Benjamin Sesko arrived from RB Leipzig in a £66m deal.
Mbeumo has impressed for United since making the move with goals against Burnley and Grimsby Town, and Ben Foster went as far as calling Mbeumo the signing of the season.
However, former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves still questions whether the deal should have even happened.

Owen Hargreaves questions Bryan Mbeumo signing
Before the October international break, Hargreaves wanted Mbeumo to play as a striker for United, and his concerns over the positioning in Amorim’s side have not gone away.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Hargreaves suggests that United should have only signed one No.10 and instead invested in a new central midfielder.
“Bruno’s by far their best player by a country mile. And then they go and sign two to play his position,” Hargreaves said.
“So he has to play as a defensive midfield player almost. And I appreciate you needed more goals because they thought ‘okay we get more goals that gets us higher up the table than say a world-class goalkeeper’, but actually, you probably have the best 10 in the division.
“You can argue between Cole Palmer and Bruno.
“And you drop him (deeper) because they want somebody to play through midfield and then you get Cunha and Mbeumo, but why didn’t you just sign a centre midfield player to play there and let Bruno do his thing with Cunha? And then a goalkeeper?
“Because I think it would have fixed a lot of issues.”
Man United have planned for Bruno Fernandes exit
Over the summer, Fernandes turned down a £100m Saudi move in a huge show of loyalty to United.
However, rumours of Saudi interest in Fernandes continue to circle. Unfortunately, the Red Devils will eventually have to wave goodbye to the 31-year-old playmaker and captain.

It is the responsibility of Ineos and United’s transfer team to make sure they are planning ahead. In Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Amorim now has two No.10s who are entering their prime at Old Trafford.
A midfielder is a top priority in 2026 as mentioned by Hargreaves, but by signing both Cunha and Mbeumo it should mean that United are no longer relying on Fernandes’ goals week-in, week-out.
