Pace plays a huge part in how Manchester United play, and the Red Devils have some of the best in the business.
There has been a lot of talk about Manchester United lacking a clear identity and style of play, but having pacey wingers and attackers who can threaten on the counter-attack is something that has always been part of the club’s DNA.
It was certainly a big feature in how Sir Alex Ferguson set up his sides, with legendary wingers such as Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham all starring in that role.
The issue with United in recent years is that sitting deep and counter-attacking has been ‘plan A’ far too often, and there needs to be a transition that sees Ten Hag’s side take control of more games.
But at the same time, United have the perfect personnel to hurt teams by breaking quickly and statistics around the Premier League’s fastest players prove it.

Two Man United stars feature in top 10 fastest players
United’s squad is full of stars with blistering pace. Rasmus Hojlund’s speed was a big talking point after his £64m arrival last summer.
But the Dane has missed the start of the Premier League season so does not feature in the top 10 list – at least not yet.
Diogo Dalot’s speed has also made headlines after he was one of the quickest defenders at Euro 2024 over the summer.
But it is actually Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho who feature in the Premier League’s top 10 fastest players this season, and Garnacho has taken the crown as United’s fastest player.
| Premier League’s top 10 fastest players this season | Club | Speed (km/h) |
| Erling Haaland | Manchester City | 35.74 |
| Timo Werner | Tottenham | 35.69 |
| Alejandro Garnacho | Manchester United | 35.48 |
| Cameron Archer | Southampton | 35.47 |
| Marcus Rashford | Manchester United | 35.35 |
| Yerson Mosquera | Wolves | 35.32 |
| Micky van de Ven | Tottenham | 35.17 |
| Antonee Robinson | Fulham | 35.14 |
| Son Heung-min | Tottenham | 35.13 |
| Gabriel Martinelli | Arsenal | 35.08 |
Stats from Opta reveal that Erling Haaland has been the quickest player in the Premier League so far, clocking a speed of 35.74 km/h.
Garnacho is third in the league – and United’s quickest – with a top speed of 35.48 km/h, while Rashford ranks fifth at 35.35 km/h.
Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, who has been linked to United, is also on the list in eighth with a top speed of 35.14 km/h.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho this season
It has been a slow start to the season for United, but big things are expected of Rashford and Garnacho this season.
After an underwhelming 2023-24 campaign for Rashford, there is hope that the 26-year-old can return to the form that saw him score 30 in all competitions the year prior.
Rashford has been working hard over the international break after missing out on the England squad, and hopefully he can kick on when the Premier League resumes this weekend.
As for Garnacho, he has settled into the first team well after his breakthrough from the academy and everything is set for him to make a Ronaldo-like transformation to become the talisman of the side.
After starring for Argentina over the break, hopefully Garnacho can carry momentum back to his club football, starting with the trip to Southampton on Saturday.
