Ruben Amorim is getting started at Manchester United, and leaves former club Sporting in a very good place.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim admitted there are mixed emotions at Sporting, with star player Pedro Goncalves ‘angry’ at him leaving mid-season.

It’s understandable, Sporting are top of the league and flying in the Champions League too, yet they were also prepared for Amorim’s departure.

B team coach Joao Pereira has stepped in, and he has witnessed Amorim’s rise close-up, and his overwhelming feeling is pride.

Joao Pereira pays tribute to Ruben Amorim

Joao Pereira had paid tribute to Ruben Amorim, as the new Manchester United boss gets settled in at the club.

Amorim was pictured greeting a handful of Manchester United players, after his introduction to the Ineos senior team.

Pereira has posted on his LinkedIn page, paying tribute to the bravery of the Sporting hierarchy to appoint Amorim in the first place in 2020.

He made the point that while Amorim lacked experience, he made up for that with bright ideas, and that without others having faith in his ability, he could not have made the incredible progress he has to Manchester United.

Pereira noted that Sporting essentially took a ‘glass half full’ approach, choosing to believe Amorim could turn them around, and it paid off. He became the first manager to win multiple titles for the club since the early 1950s.

Now as Manchester United’s youngest coach since Sir Matt Busby, the Red Devils are putting their trust in Amorim, and Pereira views this, and his predecessor himself, as inspirational.

Joao Pereira’s message in full

“Ruben Amorim and his technical team. A reference for all of us, Coaches, and for society.

“He started at Casa Pia and was suspended for not having the necessary qualifications. He started the project at SC Braga and, later, at Sporting Clube de Portugal without having the necessary qualifications, leading the entire process with great competence.

“For us, coaches, and for all other sports agents, Ruben Amorim should symbolize that nothing is how it begins but how it ends, that competence has no age, that competence does not depend on qualifications, the importance that the trust and competence of a structure have for a coach, that all coaches are subject to mistakes and that these same mistakes serve as a learning experience.

“The context of Ruben Amorim also taught everyone that “Ruben Amorims” exist when decision-makers courageously bet outside the box.

“The beginning of a path with the premise “what if it goes well?”… and in the end everything went well because someone bet on someone who is very competent.

“Good luck, Ruben and his technical team in your new adventure at Manchester United, especially Carlos and Vital, who will be just a few more Portuguese people around the world representing all our Coaches.”
