Brazil are through to the Copa America final after a 1-0 win over Peru.
Manchester United midfielder Fred started in the centre of their midfield, playing 85 minutes of the crucial win.
They will face either Argentina or Colombia in Saturday’s final at the Maracana.
And United assistant manager Mike Phelan reacted to his achievement.
Fred made four interceptions and four tackles on the night, in a typically busy performance to help his side keep a clean sheet.
He made 74 touches and had a pass accuracy of 86 per cent, keeping things ticking over.
Fred also won five of the six duels he contested to help set up a chance to end his season with silverware. [Stats via SofaScore]
He also posted on Instagram to commemorate the victory.
The message read: “We are in the final! Qualification deserved for the dedication and performance of our group. Let’s go with everything. Thank you God!”
Fellow countryman and United teammate Alex Telles reacted underneath with fire emojis, having undertaken his first day back at pre-season training yesterday.
After the heartache of the Europa League final, it would be the perfect end to the season for Fred if he could scoop silverware.
Of course, David de Gea, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford all could do the same by lifting Euro 2020, but Spain and England have semi-finals to navigate at Wembley this week first.
