Omar Berrada has now explained why Ineos could not overlook Red Devils legend Michael Carrick for the permanent Manchester United managerial role at Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick initially returned to Old Trafford as interim head coach after Ineos made the major call to axe Ruben Amorim as Manchester United manager.
The 44-year-old United legend oversaw a scintillating run at the Red Devils last season after the club chalked up 12 wins from 17 Premier League matches.
Carrick’s impressive record in the 2025-26 season saw the ex-United and England midfielder secure his place as Ruben Amorim’s long-term successor at the club.

Omar Berrada breaks down what Michael Carrick recognised about Ineos’ vision at Man Utd
Michael Carrick’s appointment as Manchester United manager was confirmed ahead of the final day of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
The former Middlesbrough manager has become the seventh permanent head coach at Man Utd since Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford back in 2013.
Omar Berrada admitted that Carrick saw the vision around media communication, the United youth academy, working with different teams and discussing ideas.
Speaking at the FT Weekend Festival, he said: “What he brings is an understanding of the club’s heritage and DNA.
“He understands the elements we’re talking about — getting the communication right with the media, transmitting ideas, connecting with our academy, working with the wider football operation team.”
Man Utd chief executive officer Berrada added that a fifth all-important reason for Carrick continuing in his managerial role was the aura that he brought to Old Trafford.
“And importantly, he’s also brought a sense of calm,” he continued, as per The Athletic.
“He’s somebody that, as a player, who [sic] has won everything with the club, so for him going to the Emirates Stadium and winning there is nothing special because he’s done it as a player.”

Omar Berrada on the knock-on effect of Michael Carrick on Man Utd players at Old Trafford
Carrick led Man Utd to a third-place finish in the Premier League last season and the Red Devils will return to the Champions League for the 2026-27 campaign now.
Berrada insisted that the positive influence of Carrick’s managerial reign at Old Trafford since January has been evident with the United first-team squad’s results.
“I think [to] be able to transmit that to a group of players that have been dealing with the pressure that we talked about, and just to normalise going to the Emirates, to the Etihad, to Anfield and having performed their best level, became, I think, his number one contribution,” he explained.
“He allowed the players to believe in themselves and to have the freedom on the pitch to express themselves.”
Carrick kicked off his permanent head coach reign in winning ways after Man Utd defeated Brighton 3-0 in their Premier League clash at the Amex in May.
