A former Manchester United and England star has sent a powerful assessment of Michael Carrick’s impact at Old Trafford after the Brighton win on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils had won four of their last five Premier League matches under Michael Carrick, who was appointed as the permanent head coach earlier this week.
Carrick chalked up his 12th Premier League victory from 17 matches since the 44-year-old Manchester United legend returned to Old Trafford in January.
Goals from Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes ensured that Man Utd defeated Brighton 3-0 on the final day of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

Gordon Hill on Michael Carrick sending a message to his biggest detractors after Man Utd’s win over Brighton
The Red Devils had already secured a third-place Premier League finish and Champions League qualification ahead of Manchester United’s victory over Brighton.
Michael Carrick’s success at Old Trafford since January saw his interim Red Devils head coach role switch to becoming the permanent Manchester United manager.
United on Friday confirmed that the former Red Devils interim boss would be Ruben Amorim’s long-term successor ahead of the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
Gordon Hill took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and insisted that Carrick proved people wrong by “delivering when the odds” were against him.
“Well [a] nice end to the season, and [a] well-earned and congratulations to Michael for leading and delivering when the odds [were] against you,” he wrote.
“And people did not believe in you.”

Gordon Hill drops his honest feelings on Michael Carrick’s run as the permanent Man Utd head coach at Old Trafford
Carrick can look ahead to putting down a long-term foundation for his reign, including strengthening the squad in the summer window and preparing for the pre-season tour.
Gordon Hill believes that Carrick’s real test is ahead as the permanent Man Utd manager and threw his support behind the former Middlesbrough manager.
“Now, Michael, your job begins, as it will never end trying to keep United in the top flow,” he said in a separate tweet.
“I believe in you and wish you all the very best for the next season. Believe in yourself and you will not go far wrong.”
Man Utd boss Carrick picked up 12 wins from 17 Premier League matches after his sensational return to Old Trafford back in January.
