Manchester United had quite a busy winter window maybe not in terms of transfer into the first-team squad, but certainly in terms of sales/loans.
Marcus Rashford went on loan to Aston Villa, Antony left for Real Betis, Tyrell Malacia returned to the Netherlands with PSV and quite a few academy players left for senior football as well.
It has ensured that Man Utd fans will keep a keen eye on many clubs across Europe and through the English football structure.
However, even the most ardent fans won’t be able to decipher what’s happened to one Man Utd loanee. Even his club boss is at a loss for words!

Rotherham boss on Dan Gore
Among the many loan moves in the winter window, Dan Gore’s move went a bit under the radar but he is perhaps the player closest to breaking into the Man Utd senior team.
Gore went to Rotherham till the end of the season, hoping to get regular football after having the last year of his career effectively wiped out due to injuries.
Gore was impressive at the U21s level, stressing again that he had outgrown academy football, and he proved the same with a great debut for Rotherham.
This is why it was such a surprise when Gore’s name was completely absent from the teamsheet for the game against Shrewsbury.

Now, Rotherham advertiser reports that club boss Steve Evans has as much a clue about what’s happened to Gore as the rest of the fans watching it.
Evans said: “He worked for two days in the team and went home from training on Friday feeling good. I got a call from the medical staff to say that he’d woken up with his foot really sore.
“It’s unbelievable. We didn’t do enough in training for him to have a sore nose let alone a sore foot. Until I hear more from the medical staff as to how it’s happened and why it’s happened then it’s … maybe God will tell me when I go to sleep tonight.”
Time’s running out for Gore
As talented as Gore is, and there’s enough evidence to suggest he’s more than good enough to break into United’s first-team, circumstances beyond his control are making it difficult for him.
His loan at Port Vale was an unmitigated disaster due to the same reason, suffering from a freak shoulder injury after making his debut and never playing again.
He returned to Old Trafford and had another surgery but came back to the academy football fold like he didn’t miss a beat.
However, this latest injury, especially the freak nature of it suggests that Gore might just be a victim of bad luck regarding injuries, always being prone to them.
Gore is 20 and while youth development is never linear, time lost due to injuries never comes back. Unfortunately for Gore, it looks like that is running out for him now.
