Maxi Oyedele signs first professional deal with Manchester United

Young Manchester United midfielder Maxi Oyedele has signed a first professional deal with the club.

Oyedele made his under-18s debut at the end of the 2020/21 season, and he has been a regular for the side in 2021/22.

The 17-year-old has now been rewarded for his contribution with a professional contract, fully deserved after a successful season.

Oyedele was part of Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup winning side, playing in all six games as United won silverware.

Oyedele posted a picture on Instagram after signing the deal, remarking, ‘the hard work continues’.

Oyedele started two of the six games in the Youth Cup, and was used as a substitute in four of the others, having to compete with Dan Gore and Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.

He played the last 26 minutes in the final at Old Trafford, in which United scored the two late goals to see off Nottingham Forest and win 3-1.

Oyedele scored two further goals in league competition and played 22 times for the academy in total in 2021/22.

He also made his youth international debut, called up by Poland’s under-18s side. He is also eligible to play for both Nigeria and England at senior level.

Oyedele follows defender Tyler Fredricson, who signed a new deal earlier this week, and midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who put pen to paper last week.

United are sensibly looking to tie down the FA Youth Cup winners, and give them every possible chance of being successes at Old Trafford.
