New Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha has been handed his squad number following his £62.5 million move from Wolves.

Ruben Amorim is looking to address Manchester United’s problems in attack by focusing on goals in the transfer window.

United have yet to identify which striker they want to sign ahead of the new season, but Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves after scoring 17 goals in the Premier League last term.

The Brazilian signed a five-year deal, with an option for an additional year, which was announced on June 12.

Furthermore, United have made attempts to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. Ineos remain confident they will reach an agreement with Brentford for the Cameroon international.

This all raises uncertainty about Rasmus Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford, with the Dane strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan after two difficult seasons since joining United from Atalanta.

United fans are also waiting on Diego Leon to arrive in England before he can be unveiled as a new player. The left-back agreed a deal to join United in January, but his move was delayed until this summer.

The Red Devils are expected to make further additions ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

What number will Matheus Cunha wear at Manchester United?

Before his move was completed, there was a lot of speculation about what number Cunha would wear at United.

The 26-year-old received the No. 10 shirt at Wolves for the 2024/25 season, which proved to be his final campaign at the club. It wasn’t the first time he wore the number after doing so at Hertha.

Cunha has also worn 9, 19 and 12 in the past.

It is believed Cunha demanded the number 10 shirt at United during negotiations with the club.

According to Daily Mail reporter Nathan Salt, Cunha will wear the number 10 shirt at United.

That means Cunha will take the number 10 shirt from Marcus Rashford, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

Rashford number change creates more uncertainty

Taking the number 10 shirt away from Rashford is the latest hint that United are preparing to go their separate ways from the academy graduate.

There has been no update on what number Rashford will wear on pre-season tour, but United fans are unlikely to be buying shirts with his name on them anytime soon.

Rashford previously wore the numbers 39 and 9 before getting the iconic number 10 shirt.

It is understood that Rashford is ready to give 100 per cent in pre-season, even though his dream is to join Barcelona.
