Matheus Cunha is creating history for Brazil, and another Man Utd star has joined him as the club’s representatives in the Premier League’s World Cup group stage XI.
The knockout round of the World Cup has begun with Canada taking home the first win, emerging 1-0 winners against South Africa.
For Man Utd, 11 players reached the knockout stages, with the usual suspects missing the upset absentee that is Manuel Ugarte’s Uruguay.
Matheus Cunha has been the star of the show for Brazil, and another star has joined him as one of the PL’s finest in the group stages.

Is Matheus Cunha on track to becoming a Brazil legend after being praised by Ronaldo?
Ronaldo sent Cunha a message on social media praising him as Brazil's No.9
Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes in PL’s World Cup group stage XI
Brazil’s World Cup campaign is only three games old at the time of writing, but it can be distinctly divided into two parts.
The first part is the first game, where Matheus Cunha didn’t start, and Brazil huffed and puffed to a surprise draw.
Carlo Ancelotti corrected his error from the second game onwards, and Cunha repaid that faith with three goals in two starting appearances.
Brazil qualified for the knockout rounds as group winners, as Cunha created history, etching his name alongside some legends of the game.
Alongside Cunha is Bruno Fernandes, whose Portugal side haven’t quite had the bite of Brazil, but that’s no fault of the Man Utd captain.
Fernandes has fallen short of his Man Utd heights in a dysfunctional Portuguese side, but he’s still the creative spark of the team.
He has assisted one goal in three group stage games, but his teammates, including a certain 41-year-old striker, have been below par.
Cunha is making Brazil better, while Fernandes is having to reduce his role to the detriment of his country.
Either way, both are deserved selections in the Premier League’s Group Stage World Cup XI, and Man Utd fans will hope that they end up making the World Cup XI as well.
