Man Utd World Cup ratings day 17, Rashford’s statement game but 8/10 star’s display creates history

There was plenty of Man Utd representation on day 17 of the World Cup, as one star created history with an 8/10 performance.

We will go through six games on a busy World Cup fixtures round, with the schedule kicking off with Croatia vs Ghana, and finishing with Jordan vs Argentina.

A total of seven Man Utd players, past and present, were in action, with most eyes on Marcus Rashford, who started his first game of the World Cup.

Here’s how each player fared.

Which FORMER Man Utd player are you most intrigued to watch at the World Cup…?

There are more ex-United players at the tournament than current ones! 🌎

Marcus Rashford – 7/10 (W vs Panama)

Thomas Tuchel finally saw sense and started Rashford ahead of Anthony Gordon, and the Man Utd star didn’t disappoint.

He was an explosive presence, taking the most shots (5), having the most touches in the box (9), and terrorising Panama with his direct running.

Some wastefulness saw him finish the game with zero goal involvements, but he should start ahead of Gordon now.

Bruno Fernandes – 7/10 (D vs Colombia)

Portugal were lucky to escape with a draw against Colombia in a poor performance, but Bruno Fernandes can hold his head high.

He was his best creative self, but was let down by his teammates, while the play being centred around Ronaldo doesn’t help anybody’s case.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 3/10 (D vs Colombia)

After a brace against Uzbekistan, Cristiano Ronaldo was back down to earth with a dispiriting display of wastefulness and frustration.

Mistimed runs, lack of defensive effort, and missed chances summed up a brutal game, which will again raise questions over his suitability to this golden generation of Portugal.

Diogo Dalot – 6/10 (D vs Colombia)

Diogo Dalot has largely deputised for Joao Cancelo at right-back, but he showed against Colombia that he deserves more minutes.

He came on for Cancelo at half-time and his performance cleared his teammate’s, as he was a dynamic presence in both boxes.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 8/10 (W vs Uzbekistan)

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the defensive lock-up hero as DR Congo created history by qualifying for the knockout round at their first-ever World Cup.

The right-back was unbeatable in defence, and even flourished in the attacking phase, creating the most chances for his team (3).

What do you think of Man City spending £130 million on Elliot Anderson?

Will Anderson be a flop? Or will United regret not paying up?

He switched his nationality to DR Congo for moments like these, and he’s been vindicated. Up next, he’ll get a chance to inflict an upset on England to complete his revenge.

Axel Tuanzebe – 7/10 (W vs Uzbekistan)

Tuanzebe is in a similar boat to Wan-Bissaka, powering DR Congo’s historic World Cup run with leader-like performances.

The former Man Utd youngster was a rock in defence to repel Uzbekistan’s fleeting attacking threat. Like Wan-Bissaka, he played for England too, and he will have the chance to eliminate them from the World Cup next.

Marcel Sabitzer -7.5/10 (D vs Algeria)

Marcel Sabitzer scored a goal to send Austria through to the knockout round in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Algeria. He also created one chance from his LW position to sum up a good game.
