Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha has spoken out on the “most important” thing for him after his first pre-season training session under Ruben Amorim.

Matheus Cunha has been Manchester United’s marquee signing this summer after the Red Devils wasted no time landing him from Premier League side Wolves.

The Red Devils activated the ex-Wolves ace’s £62.5m release clause last month and Cunha signed for United after an impressive run of form in the 2025-26 campaign.

Cunha was a key target for United and Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is a big admirer of the 26-year-old Brazilian attacker’s versatility and impact in the final third.

The Brazil international inked a five-year deal with United and Cunha had initially been away from Old Trafford this summer representing the Brazil national team.

However, Cunha was part of the first wave of United players to report to Carrington on Monday for the first pre-season training session under Amorim this summer.

Matheus Cunha sends a clear-cut message to Man Utd fans over what to expect from him under Ruben Amorim next season

Matheus Cunha inherited the Manchester United No 10 shirt for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford from Red Devils outcast Marcus Rashford.

The United signing showed his superb qualities for Wolves in the 2024-25 season by scoring 17 times and picking up six assists in 36 matches across all competitions.

Cunha took part in the training session at the Carrington complex on Tuesday and United fans had their first close look at the Brazil forward under Ruben Amorim.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, the former Wolves player revealed how important his role in attack would be after he took on the No 10 shirt.

“This is the most important, this is the most important [an impact in the attack],” he said.

“I don’t know, with every single number, it will be a pleasure to use the shirt. But, yeah, with this one it’s something different.

“Then, of course, the responsibility is coming, and I hope I can do everything like goals, assists and help the team.

“So this is kind of a very important point for my position.”

Matheus Cunha’s role under Ruben Amorim in Man Utd’s 2025-26 Premier League season at Old Trafford cannot be underestimated

Cunha is tipped to play as the left-sided No 10 in Amorim’s tactical system for United in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign, having played in the role for Wolves.

United manager Amorim watched on from the sidelines in the 2024-25 campaign as his Red Devils players lacked a clinical edge in the final third of the pitch.

The Red Devils lacked consistency in attack in their woeful 2024-25 Premier League season and Amorim is keen to address that issue in this summer window.

Cunha is built for Amorim’s system at United and there will be high expectations placed on the shoulders of the Brazil ace to deliver for the Red Devils next season.
