Mason Mount has now opened up about the powerful message that all Manchester United players received under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford this summer.

Ruben Amorim has been working closely with his Manchester United players, both first-team talent and academy products, during this summer’s pre-season tour.

The 40-year-old United manager has been able to host his first pre-season campaign with the Premier League club, having arrived from Sporting CP last November.

Amorim took charge at the Red Devils during the 2024-25 campaign after Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager in 2024, following a poor start to the season.

The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League table last season and United also lost 1-0 to Tottenham at the San Mames Stadium in the 2025 Europa League final.

United stars reported back to the Carrington training complex earlier this month for the start of pre-season training under Amorim after the end of the season in May.

Mason Mount makes ‘focus’ admission after Man Utd’s 2024-25 Premier League season under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim

The Red Devils kicked off their pre-season tour earlier this month and Manchester United and Leeds United walked away with a 0-0 draw from their friendly match.

Following United’s encounter with Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena, the Red Devils travelled to the United States for the next three matches of their tour.

Ruben Amorim’s men are in the States and the Red Devils picked up the first win of their summer tour on Sunday, with United defeating West Ham 2-1 in New Jersey.

Mason Mount, who featured in United’s friendly match with West Ham at the MetLife Stadium, admitted they had a “very long” break before finally returning to action.

“We’ve had a long break, just over five weeks,” he told Manchester United’s official website.

“That felt very, very long. I think after about two, you start getting itchy and you want to start getting back [into] training again.

“It was good to really focus on getting that rest period, just switching off and relaxing, but then slowly building that up again, getting ready for the first day that we were back in.”

Mason Mount shares what Ruben Amorim told him and his Man Utd teammates during the 2025 pre-season campaign

United players have been put through their paces at both Carrington and the training facilities abroad during the five-match pre-season campaign this summer.

Amorim and his United coaching staff have wasted no time putting the all-important foundation down for the Red Devils ahead of the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford.

Mount has now revealed that the Portuguese coach made it clear what his United players should expect from him in training and how it would be “tough” for them.

“We’d been told that it was going to be tough from the get-go, so we had to be ready for that,” he continued.

United will head to Illinois next and will return to action at the Soldier Field in Chicago, with the Red Devils facing Premier League side Bournemouth on Thursday.
