Ruben Amorim had the opportunity to see how two Manchester United players would link up with one another during the pre-season friendly against West Ham.
The Red Devils kicked off the United States leg of their pre-season tour in winning ways, with Manchester United coming out on top against West Ham on Sunday.
Bruno Fernandes was the difference-maker for Ruben Amorim and the 30-year-old United captain scored a stunning brace at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The Portugal star netted in the fifth minute from the penalty before Bruno Fernandes completed his brace in the second half of United’s 2-1 win against West Ham.
Jarrod Bowen handed the Hammers a fighting chance after the break when he found the back of the net, but West Ham failed to rally back against United in the match.
United’s encounter with West Ham in East Rutherford was the Red Devils’ first of three matches as part of the Premier League Summer Series in the States.

What Ruben Amorim can take away from both Leny Yoro and Amad Diallo in his Man Utd tactical system vs West Ham
Leny Yoro took his place on the right side of the three-man backline of Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for Manchester United in Sunday’s 2-1 win in New Jersey.
The 19-year-old French defender played 66 minutes against West Ham before United manager Amorim made the call to hook him off for Tyler Fredricson.
Amad Diallo was deployed as the right wing-back at the start of the Premier League Summer Series match and the 23-year-old Ivorian attacker impressed in the role.
The United winger, much like teammate Yoro, made way in the 66th minute and was replaced by Diogo Dalot for the remainder of the match at the MetLife Stadium.
Harry Robinson’s piece for Manchester United’s official website highlighted that Yoro was able to show ‘marauding runs’ and effectively ‘partner in attack’ with Amad Diallo.
According to Harry Robinson, the connection between Yoro and Amad on the right flank was a ‘notable’ aspect of the two players on the pitch against West Ham.
Amad Diallo’s position change could unlock an all-new dynamic with Leny Yoro for Ruben Amorim in the 2025-26 season
Amad Diallo is likely to feature more as a right wing-back for the Red Devils in the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford after the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
Amorim has mainly relied on Diogo Dalot as his first-choice right wing-back last season, despite some questions being raised about his effectiveness in the role.
However, the former Sporting CP manager can now offer increasing competition to Dalot with Amad, who is well-known for his ability to create attacking chances.
Amad’s rapport with Leny Yoro will be welcomed by United fans and could further ‘evolve’ the right-sided flank of Amorim’s set-up, both attacking- and defensive-wise.
