Martial says he is excited after Sevilla move confirmed
Anthony Martial’s Manchester United loan exit to join Sevilla has been confirmed.
Martial made his desire to leave Old Trafford clear early on in Ralf Rangnick’s reign and he has finally got his wish.
The Frenchman will play for the La Liga outfit until the end of the season and there is no option or obligation to buy him included in the loan deal.
Martial has given his first interview as a Sevilla player to the club’s YouTube channel, where he shared his excitement about the move.
Watford Hiring Roy Hodgson Is A Joke.
“I feel excited because Sevilla is a good club in Spain and I have come here to do a great job. They have good players and I am just coming to give my best and try to win some trophies for the fans.”
Sevilla are managed by Julen Lopetegui who is reportedly being eyed up by United as a long term managerial option and Martial said of him: “I spoke with him a few times and he was very excited to see me come here to play.”
Sevilla goalkeeper Bono produced a masterclass to defy United in the 2020 Europa League semi-finals and Martial was asked about him too: “He made great saves against us. It was unbelievable, he saved every shot, it was crazy.”
A smiling Martial continued: “I have seen some games, they are playing good football, they are still in the Europa League, they are second, we just need to work hard and do our best to do something. It was just about the feeling I had with the manager and I had the feeling in the moment I wanted to join Sevilla.
“It is not just about money, just to play and enjoy. That’s it, that’s why I chose to come here; to play and enjoy my football again.”
Martial’s United career has reached a standstill. He was not getting enough gametime and now Anthony Elanga has overtaken him in the pecking order.
There is a talented forward in there; it is just about showing it on a regular basis. Sevilla will hope they can restore his form and confidence.
French outlet L’Equipe report that Martial has been given assurances that he will play as a centre-forward and not on the wing.
That is where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got a tune out of him in the 2019/20 season, with the number nine on his back, and Martial will be looking to rediscover that form in Spain.
