Manchester United look increasingly likely to welcome Marcus Rashford back at the club this summer after the latest update around his future.
As things stand, Marcus Rashford is likely to be pulling on the red of Manchester United again under the management of Michael Carrick later this summer.
Rashford’s disappointing World Cup won’t have clubs queueing up, and a fee anywhere close to his value is unlikely.
It has been claimed all along that both United and the winger are open to renewing the relationship. But now it looks to be inevitable, as a key timeline point has been passed.

David Ornstein explains why Marcus Rashford’s return just became more likely
There has been a lot of uncertainty around Rashford’s future at Old Trafford, but David Ornstein’s latest report for The Athletic has been the clearest indication that he will be remaining at United.
Ornstein has claimed that Rashford had a £40m release clause, which expired on July 15th, which makes a sale a lot more complicated. It is added that any deal will now have to be renegotiated.
However, Rashford has also reportedly rejected lucrative offers to leave this summer already, some more financially enticing than his United contract, which is good news for Michael Carrick.

Rashford has now chosen to stay at Manchester United
This summer has likely been a bit of a wake-up call for Rashford.
First, Barcelona snubbed Rashford after his impressive campaign on loan at the Catalan side, instead paying almost triple the £26m option to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, leaving United’s number 10 in the cold.
This will have shocked Rashford, with the La Liga champions maintaining that they were relying on him for the 2026/27 season, only to leave him hanging as his dream move disappeared.
Rashford has been open to a United return, likely thanks to his relationship with Carrick from when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was head coach. But some have claimed Rashford is driven by money and has moved on from United.
But he has rejected other offers which could have given him an easier life, likely in a weaker league and earning more money. This makes it Rashford’s decision to stay, showing some level of desire to continue at United.
Rashford caught flak for his Barcelona comments, stating that if he were a magician, then he would make himself remain at the Camp Nou. This annoyed United fans, but now should be forgotten, as he has clearly opted – at least for now – to commit to United under Carrick.
Being snubbed by Barcelona and then subsequently being left on the bench by Thomas Tuchel for most of the World Cup should have been a wake-up call for Rashford that he maybe isn’t the player he has himself pictured as in his head.
But he could be again if he knuckles down and commits to United for the 2026/27 season.
This is good for United, because signing a winger better than Rashford would be almost impossible, and instead, funds can be directed toward signing a Benjamin Sesko back-up, extra defenders, and a left-back.
Rashford, Matheus Cunha, Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Shea Lacey – six very impressive options across the two wing positions, depth enough to challenge on all fronts.
