Marcus Rashford held a meeting with the Manchester United hierarchy this week about his future.
With Barcelona choosing not to trigger the £26 million buy option for Marcus Rashford this summer, the 28-year-old’s future is now up in the air.
Reports this week claim Rashford is ready to return to United, and he is now expected to rejoin the squad for pre-season training this summer.
There is a £40m release clause for Rashford this summer, so a move cannot be ruled out. But, it now seems likely that the Carrington graduate will return for 2026/27.

Is this a little harsh on Marcus Rashford? Do you feel the same way?
What was said in Marcus Rashford’s Man United meeting?
Oh, to be a fly on the wall of Rashford’s meeting with United chiefs. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has some behind-the-scenes details to share.
Via the Here We Go podcast on YouTube, Romano said: “I can tell you what happened in the last 24 hours with Marcus Rashford and Manchester United.
“A face-to-face meeting between the representatives of Marcus Rashford and Manchester United took place. It was a very positive meeting.
“It opened the door to the possibility of Rashford staying and reviving his career at Manchester United. I’m not saying Rashford is 100% staying.
“My understanding is that the discussion was: ‘If you want, we can continue together’, and Rashford said: ‘Okay, I am ready to restart the pre-season together’.
“At the moment, the intention from both sides is to make sure Rashford restarts pre-season in red, and also with a new coach.
“This is the start of something new. It is the first step to try and continue together.”
Marcus Rashford evidently does not want to return to Man Utd – There is no way back for him surely?!

How Marcus Rashford’s return impacts transfer plans
For months now, it has been assumed that Rashford will be sold in this summer’s window, so his return truly changes the plan.
United have been in the market for a new winger, but that will likely no longer be the case if Rashford returns.

Also, United can no longer count on removing Rashford’s £300,000 per week wages from the wage bill, which could impact the transfer budget.
On the flip side, if Rashford is still sold this summer, a £40 million fee is more than Ineos initially expected to receive from Barcelona, so it could actually inflate the amount that the Red Devils can spend on a replacement.
