Marcus Rashford slammed as ‘clumsy’ by French media as Man United loanee flops for Aston Villa vs PSG

Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford suffered defeat in Paris while playing for Aston Villa in the Champions League.

One of the attractions for Marcus Rashford joining Aston Villa on loan this winter was that the 27-year-old would be back in the Champions League.

In earlier rounds, Rashford was ‘fantastic’ in the Champions League for Villa with Unai Emery putting his full faith in the loan star.

On Wednesday evening, Rashford struggled against PSG as Villa suffered a 3-1 defeat at Parc des Princes – a stadium where Marcus Rashford will have fond memories in a Manchester United shirt.

French media slam ‘clumsy’ Marcus Rashford display vs PSG

During his time at Old Trafford, Rashford struggled when put at centre-forward. He always seemed at his best playing off the left.

However, Rashford was forced to play centrally against PSG by Emery on Wednesday night, and United fans will be all too familiar with what followed – an underwhelming display.

Rashford failed to take a single shot and French media did not hold back when they assessed his performance after the full-time whistle.

French outlet 90Min gave Rashford a 3/10 rating for his display, adding: “Unavailable for 25 minutes, the English striker had a strange start. His team suffered waves of Parisian attacks, his contribution was less.

“Initially somewhat clumsy, he managed several important technical moves. On a long ball from Rogers, he took advantage of a misjudgment from Beraldo to rush into the box and send a back pass that was ultimately cleared by the Parisian defense.”

FootMercato delivered a slightly higher rating of 4.5, but also suggested that Rashford had little impact.

“The Englishman touched his first ball in the Parisian camp in the 22nd minute, as a symbol of his very difficult match.”

Marcus Rashford’s honeymoon period at Aston Villa is ending

It seems unlikely that Rashford will play for United again after he seemingly burned all bridges with Ruben Amorim on his way out of Old Trafford.

There were huge concerns over Rashford’s attitude, and Amorim was right to freeze him out of the squad if he was not fully focused on winning games for the Red Devils.

Rashford made a bright start at Villa and even earned himself a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad after being dropped by Gareth Southgate.

However, there have been a few signs that Rashford might be beginning to falter at Villa and there is no guarantee that Villa will buy Rashford permanently in the summer.

With the Premier League season coming to an end shortly, Rashford only has a few weeks remaining to convince Villa to trigger their £40m buy option – otherwise he resets back to square one trying to find a new club.
