Marcus Rashford is set to depart Manchester United. Now that’s not something many Red Devils supporters would have ever expected to hear.
Rashford is Aston Villa bound, with Fabrizio Romano issuing an infamous ‘here we go’ on the Manchester United academy graduate on Sunday morning, which all but confirms a transfer in today’s media.
The deal is a loan, with an option to buy for Unai Emery, which means Rashford could finally be leaving Old Trafford for good.
So who got the better end of the stick? It’s safe to say some United supporters aren’t best pleased about one area.

Man Utd fans fume at Marcus Rashford buy option
Despite an initial loan as the decided option between the two clubs, Villa also have a £40m buy option – which Manchester United supporters aren’t pleased about.
One fan wrote: ‘Rashford 40million. How did we get here?’
Another writes: ‘How do I tell my kids that United let Pogba and Martial leave on a free and accepted £40m for Rashford with three years left? But signed Mount for £60m with one year left and declined £45m for Garnacho?’
‘Buy option worth £40m for Rashford. I think Manchester United can be likened to USA, which subsidizes every country in the world but in turn, they get slammed by tariffs by the same countries. How much did we spend on Mason Mount again?’ another put.
Another adds: ‘£40m for Rashford is a good deal… for Villa’.
One more United supporter fumes: ‘Rashford ended up being sold for 40M and Sancho 25M, wild times.’
A final sums it up perfectly: ‘Marcus Rashford? £40m? This is dystopian’. It does somewhat feel it, particularly with what he was valued in the past.

How much Manchester United have valued Rashford in the past
There have been numerous times when it looked like Rashford could leave United, and the price tag will be significantly higher than what Villa pays.
In 2021, Rashford was named the most expensive footballer on the planet, with a transfer value of £150 million.
That was according to the CIES Football Observatory which uses a special scientific algorithm to work out the estimated value of the top players in the world.
In 2024, according to The Daily Mirror, PSG were willing to pay £75m for Rashford and were lining up even bigger bids in the past.
Now, if Villa do decide to pull the trigger next season, it will be just the £40m United receive for the winger. United now need a Rashford replacement – and as the window ticks shut, time is running out.
