Manchester United fans are growing used to players frustratingly improving after leaving the club.

It has been a frustrating trend at Manchester United in recent years, and it has continued with the recent departures of Marcus Rashford and Antony.

Both players found themselves in Ruben Amorim’s five-man bomb squad this summer having been picked out as players who can leave.

Antony starred for Real Betis last season and he waited until deadline day to complete a permanent £21.5m move to the Spanish side.

Meanwhile, Rashford joined Barcelona on loan and reports suggest there is a buyout clause worth around £26m to make the deal permanent next summer.

How much Marcus Rashford and Antony have improved after leaving

Last season, United fans were left in awe at Antony’s performances for Betis considering he had been so underwhelming during his time at Old Trafford.

Rashford recently starred in the Champions League for Barcelona, scoring twice in one match against Newcastle United. The 28-year-old also looks to have revived his form after leaving United.

As per Sofascore, both Rashford and Antony have seen a significant improvement in their output in front of goal since leaving.

During the end stages of his United career, Rashford was averaging a goal or assist every 198.7 minutes. Since leaving to join Aston Villa on loan, he is now recording a goal or assist every 102.4 minutes – nearly double his output.

As for Antony, the difference is staggering. During his time at United, he averaged a goal or assist once every 322 minutes. Since his move to Betis however, his output has also nearly doubled.

Man United should not regret Rashford and Antony sales

It only adds to fan frustration when players leave and thrive, but that shouldn’t lead United to regret their departures.

As Amorim said last season: “We cannot look at all the players that go away. They had their chance in Manchester United, so you are asking a lot about other players that had played for Manchester United.”

Antony never settled in the Premier League and has since spoken about how difficult he found life in Manchester.

As for Rashford, his attitude was heavily questioned by Amorim and pundits before he was eventually frozen out.

With both players, it was in United’s best interest to sell Rashford and Antony this summer. Even if they go on to become superstars, there should be no regrets.
