Manchester United are in the hunt for a new midfielder and Manuel Ugarte is no longer top of the list of targets.
The new player at the top of United’s most wanted list is yet to be determined, but we do know a move for Manuel Ugarte has been shelved.
The Athletic report Manchester United view Manuel Ugarte as too expensive at £50 million, and will turn attentions elsewhere.
A move for Ugarte is not dead in the water, but United need PSG to drop their asking price.

Ugarte in contact with Pellistri
Manuel Ugarte has not given up on his plan to leave Paris Saint-Germain and he is still keen on a move to Manchester United.
Another interested club, Atletico Madrid, are now highly unlikely to make the move, due to their big money spend on Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.
Ugarte has fallen out of favour at PSG after just 12 months, and their big move for Joao Neves will push him further down the pecking order.
The Uruguayan is in direct contact with one Manchester United player, his international teammate Facundo Pellistri.
And within the past few hours, Ugarte has sent a message to Pellistri on Instagram, a light-hearted one after seeing him at Carrington.
Ugarte made reference to Pellistri’s new hair trim, writing: “Is that the cut”.
Pellistri future uncertain
It would be too much to read anything into Manuel Ugarte’s friendship with Facundo Pellistri, with regard to a potential transfer.
There is a high likelihood Pellistri is not a Manchester United player by time the transfer deadline passes.
Pellistri spent the second half of last season on loan at Spanish side Granada, a fairly underwhelming spell despite an early starring role against Barcelona.
He impressed at the Copa America, and United should expect offers. Whether they come close to a reasonable fee, is another matter, but Pellistri should command a good price.
He may have hoped to cross over with Ugarte at Carrington at least, but for now, it appears unlikely the midfielder will be joining, unless there is a change of approach from PSG.
