Manchester United have walked away from efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, for now.
After attempting to secure a deal for Manuel Ugarte over the past month, Manchester United have made the decision to focus on other targets, The Athletic report.
PSG wanted £51 million (60m Euros) for Ugarte, a price Manchester United considered too expensive.
Expect to see lots of links between United and alternative midfielders over the coming days.

Reaction to Manuel Ugarte deal KO
Manchester United’s decision to pull out of the move for Manuel Ugarte is big news in France, where league champions Paris Saint-Germain had expected to cash in on him.
PSG have just completed a move for Joao Neves, and the perception is they may need to sell Ugarte to recoup some money, and let go of a player who faces a role on the sidelines.
The reaction in France to Manchester United’s decision has been met with intrigue, and not total surprise, considering PSG’s high asking price.
Paris Fans write: “It was to be expected, the asking price by the Parisian club is quite high for a player who has not really impressed this year.”
They also suggest United ‘withdrawing’ may simply be an attempt to put pressure on PSG to drop the price.
In terms of Ugarte’s future, they add: “He could even stay, which would not be so problematic in itself. He would probably not have too much playing time, but in football, everything goes very quickly.”
Le 10 Sport write that United have simply ‘lost patience’ with PSG’s unwillingness to budge, viewing the French club as ‘too greedy’, as much as they admire Ugarte.
Made In Foot note: “Manuel Ugarte was already on the verge of packing his bags to continue his career at Manchester United… The 23-year-old player will have to find another way out if he wants to leave Paris at all costs.”
Footmercato label the developments ‘a real blow for Manuel Ugarte’, talking up his desire to play in the Premier League.
Manuel Ugarte had agreed personal terms
Manuel Ugarte has only spent one year at PSG, and yet was already willing to walk away to join Manchester United, after failing to settle in Luis Enrique’s system.
United’s admiration for Ugarte remains, the Uruguayan was among the best midfielders at the Copa America.
Ugarte had agreed personal terms with Manchester United. This deal falling through is more about money, than the player himself.
If a bid was forthcoming for Casemiro, then this would be a deal which could be quickly revived, or if PSG had a re-think.
Until then, United will be assessing and potentially moving for other targets now, and Ugarte may have to find another solution.
