Manuel Ugarte on Ruben Amorim

Summer signing Manuel Ugarte has unique first-hand insight on Ruben Amorim, he previously played under him at Sporting.

This will help Ugarte’s own ambitions to establish himself as a key part of the Manchester United team, while also helping Amorim, to have a player already very familiar with his ideas.

Ugarte has been speaking to DAZN after Manchester United’s match with Chelsea, with his interview also reported via Portuguese outlet Record.

Ugarte explained that he completely gets why Sporting fans are disappointed to see Amorim leave, amid his desire for a new challenge.

He explained: “I saw that Sporting fans were upset and that’s understandable, because the coach is a great coach. It’s good for United, we have to take advantage of it and get him to convey his ideas as quickly as possible.

“I think it’s going to be a different dynamic and the day-to-day will be similar to Sporting’s. The league, the country, the football… It’s a big challenge for him but we all know he has the ability.

“It’s positive, mainly because the club needs to start building a path, which is important, and the coach will be key to that,”

Ugarte on United players

Manuel Ugarte explained how naturally, his Manchester United teammates have been quizzing him on the incoming head coach.

He also said that it has taken many players aback how young Amorim is, the incoming boss is only 39.

Ugarte said: “My teammates have asked a lot about him. What surprised them was his age.

“He’s also very hungry to win and that’s very important. I can tell he’ll enjoy it.”

Amorim is the youngest Manchester United boss since Sir Matt Busby, creating history already.

He arrives with a proven record in his country, the only Sporting manager since 1953 to win multiple league titles with the club.
