Manchester United's strongest XI for Ralf Rangnick to choose from for next fixture

Manchester United: It’s been a while.

United’s last game was on December 11 away at Norwich City, 10 days ago which in mid-season football terms, seems like an eternity.

By time United’s fixture with Newcastle United comes around on December 27, more than two weeks will have passed between games, and hopefully, this next one will go ahead.

An update on United’s official website following a Premier League meeting on Monday confirmed that the ‘intention is for games to continue’, rather than let fixtures pile up later on by having a two week break now.

By time the team line up against Newcastle next Monday night, the team selection will depend a lot on who is available, who is fit and fresh, and will also bear in mind some of the form we saw heading into the break.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

In short, it’s near impossible to predict at this point who will start, and rather than do that, we are putting together a ‘United’s strongest XI’ which could be available to Ralf Rangnick.

The only unavailable players for this exercise are injured stars Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.

United’s strongest available XI

David de Gea is the clear choice in goal after his excellent performances this season. Dean Henderson presents a different option, but there’s no way that.

Raphael Varane is back fit again to start in central defence to start alongside Harry Maguire. There is a case for both Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof to have a claim too, after recent impressive performances when called upon.

The full-backs in possession as being top choice right now are Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles. It is up to Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to win their places back. Telles has made more tackles than Shaw this season in seven fewer matches.

Fred and Scott McTominay are United’s preferred midfield choice under Ralf Rangnick and both players benefit from his 4-2-2-2 system, where they are less isolated.

Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho are two relatively easy selections as the link players between midfield and attack. They are the two players best suited for the roles and United need their creativity for this team to function as it should.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the club’s top scorer and still clear first choice attacker, so who should partner him? Edinson Cavani deserves a shot to resume his partnership with Ronaldo which flashed so brightly in their one start together.

Now Cavani is fit again, United should use him which we can, with Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood on the bench.
