Manchester United are reported to be closing in on a move for Raphael Varane.

French newspaper Le Parisien report talks between United and Real Madrid are underway, adding: “We are rapidly approaching an agreement between the two clubs.”

The report speculates a deal between the two clubs could be struck over the next week.

It is a very optimistic report where United are concerned. The price speculated for Varane is at just 45 million Euros (£38.5m).

That seems too good to be true, and it could end up being simply the base agreement price befoe add-ons.

Jadon Sancho’s transfer was finally announced last week and United must now plough on with the next planned move. A deal for Varane is one the club have been pursuing all summer long.

United’s interest has heightened since Euro 2020 finished and Varane wants his future resolved as quickly as possible.

There is not long now until the Premier League season starts. Kick-off against Leeds is just under three weeks away.

If United can close a deal for Varane this week then he would arrive in Manchester for the start of August, when Sancho is expected back along with the last of the club’s Euro 2020 stars.

This deal sounds close, although it could still all fall apart. The week ahead may end up being decisive.
