Manchester United loanee slammed as ‘worst player on the pitch’ after home defeat

Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has had a difficult return to Borussia Dortmund.

After pushing through a loan exit at the start of January, Jadon Sancho has not had the ideal return to Germany he hoped for.

He provided an assist on his debut against the Bundesliga’s 20th ranked side Darmstadt, who have two wins all season, and then nothing since.

His performance in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven was criticised in Germany, and it has become clear that the winger is a shadow of the player he was in his first spell there.

Dortmund slump to home loss

Jadon Sancho played on the left wing in Dortmund’s midweek draw against PSV. To try and switch it up, manager Edin Terzic changed it around.

Sancho was selected on the right wing in their Bundesliga game at home to Hoffenheim on Sunday.

They led at half-time but lost the game 3-2, with Sancho substituted in the 75th minute with his team trailing.

Sancho had only six touches in the Hoffenheim penalty box, and while he had four successful dribbles, he did not make a decisive impact.

He is without a goal or assist since his debut, six consecutive games now, and the loss to seventh placed Hoffenheim has added to a frustrating season for the German side.

Sancho under pressure

German outlet Der Westen reported after the game that there was growing frustration among Dortmund fans on social media with Sancho.

The report reads: “BVB was so happy when Jadon Sancho was brought back during the last winter transfer period. The prodigal son is finally back. He really sent the fans into a state of euphoria. A few weeks later there is no sign of it anymore. Against TSG Hoffenheim (2:3), the supporters hoped that the 23-year-old would finally score his first goal.

“But they were disappointed once again. The BVB star showed another poor performance against Hoffenheim and was probably the worst player on the pitch.”

Sancho can still turn this around, as we frequently see with players, all it takes is a goal. We saw what Rasmus Hojlund‘s first league strike for United did for him.

But the worry for him is that his place in the Dortmund starting line-up could begin to come under threat.

Manchester United do need Sancho to perform well, to create a market to sell him in the summer. Right now the club are not much closer. He’s playing again, which is something, but his value remains supressed.
