Anthony Martial could be out for the rest of the season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer relayed the bad news just before Manchester United’s game with Brighton kicked off.
Martial sustained an injury a week earlier in a World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan. He was pictured wearing a leg brace on his wife’s Instagram.

Solskjaer told the club website: “Unfortunately, he sprained his knee with France. It’s always when they go away on internationals… you can keep your fingers crossed and hope they come back fit
“Losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing, especially when reports from there [France] was that it wasn’t anything serious but it looks a bad one.”
United still have eight Premier League games left, plus a minimum of two Europa League matches and hopefully an additional three.
Martial’s injury stretches United’s forward options, with the team reliant on Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood. There could also be some additional game time for Amad Diallo.
If Cavani can stay fit, then United may get past this injury blow, but it will be harder to keep him fresh without having Martial to rotate.
As a result, Mason Greenwood should see some starts in a central striker role.
The injury puts more pressure on United to solve the striker position in the summer. If Martial had finished the season strongly then it could have offered a bit more hope for next year. As it stands, he would finish the season on just seven goals.
