Manchester United fans mock 'Poundland Klopp' Thomas Frank after post-game interview meltdown
Brentford boss Thomas Frank showed his salty side in an embarrassing post-game interview after Manchester United beat them 3-1.
Credit to Brentford, they played well in the first half and put United under pressure. But listening to Frank, you would think he was watching Barcelona in their pomp scything through the Red Devils’ defence.
David de Gea was called into action several times and kept United in it, while there was some poor finishing from Brentford.
Frank’s bizarre interview with BT Sport talked about how his side ‘destroyed’ United in the first half, and seemingly forgetting there was another 45 minutes to play afterwards.
The Brentford boss said: “Unbelievably proud of my team. We are the smallest club in the Premier League, Manchester United the biggest.
“We destroyed them in the first half, they didn’t have a sniff, three huge chances and there could only have been one winner of this game. They are unbelievably lucky. I know all the stuff about taking chances. They changed the system against little Brentford.
“One of those nights, fair play to David de Gea, if we get those chances again one will go in the back of the net. Our intensity killed them, we showed that in the first half, we played the Brentford way.
“Of the three goals, the second is most disappointing and difficult to come back from. The way we smashed them in the first half was fantastic, so proud of my team.”
Turn up for the second 45 next time
Whether United really were ‘smashed’ or ‘destroyed’ in the first 45 minutes mattered for absolutely nothing, the Red Devils rallied and scored three goals in the second half to leave Brentford regretting missing their chances.
Of course it was concerning to see De Gea called upon so frequently, but the Spaniard has become used to this, and United showed the value of having clinical attackers.
By time the game ended, United were sauntering to a 3-1 win, with Brentford just scoring a late consolation from close range.
There is a lesson for teams, if you don’t take your chances against United, a team with the firepower the Red Devils possess will make you pay.
Frank’s comments give the impression Brentford were popping champagne corks at half-time to toast their wonderful first 45. It certainly seems possible when matched up with their insipid second half display.
You don’t get any points for a stylistic 45 minutes with no end product.
Frank’s comments caused some amusement for United supporters, with several comparing the Bees boss to Jurgen Klopp…
