Marcus Rashford could return to Manchester United a lot sooner than expected.
The Manchester United loanee moved to Aston Villa on a six-month deal that runs until the end of the season.
Marcus Rashford opted to join Villa on loan after being frozen out of the United first-team squad by Ruben Amorim.
Unlike Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro, who were both left out by Amorim at the beginning of his reign, Rashford turned down the challenge and decided to try to resurrect his career elsewhere.
Rashford has made 10 goal contributions in 17 matches under Unai Emery and has taken Ollie Watkins’ place in the team, although there are serious doubts over Villa’s option to sign the United forward for £40m.
Villa were without Rashford in their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday due to an injury. There are now growing fears his season could be over.

Manchester United consider recalling Marcus Rashford
There is a chance Rashford may have made his final appearance for Villa.
On Saturday, Emery confirmed that Rashford faces “weeks” out after suffering a hamstring injury.
“We are going to try to test him each match but he’s injured and probably some weeks he won’t be available,” Emery said.
Emery will want to get the most out of Rashford before he leaves Villa Park, but United will be more mindful of the forward making his injury worse ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to The Sun, United are in talks with Villa over whether to recall Rashford.
Villa have four games left to play this season, and Rashford is not eligible to play against his parent club United in the final match.
That means the last game of Rashford’s loan spell would be on May 18 against Tottenham.
Rashford could return earlier than expected if the two clubs agree there is no prospect of him recovering in the next three weeks.
There is unlikely to be a future for Rashford at Old Trafford under Amorim, so United will welcome offers for his signature in the summer. That is a way Ineos would like to generate funds for new signings in the transfer market.
Marcus Rashford stats compared
Rashford wants Champions League football next season and will hope he has done enough to attract interest from Barcelona or PSG in the summer.
Emery has been happy with his input at Villa Park, although it could be argued that he is still showing nowhere near the levels he did previously at United.
| Rashford at Manchester United | Rashford at Aston Villa |
| 15 games played | 10 games played |
| 4 goals | 2 goals |
| 1 assist | 2 assists |
| 253 passes | 117 passes |
| 440 touches | 227 touches |
| 7 tackles | 10 tackles |
| 16 shots | 18 shots |
There may have been an improvement in Rashford’s performance and happiness, but the England international scored more Premier League goals for United than Villa this season.
It remains to be seen if he did enough to warrant a permanent deal at Villa.
